HORSEBACK RIDING SAFARIS
horse riding safari

Go on a horseback safari. Horseback riding is the best way to approach wildlife on a safari: with the human form merging with the shape and movement of a horse, you approach wildlife more easily on horseback, than by vehicle or on foot.
Go on a horseback safari through exceptional landscapes to discover African wildlife. We offer progressive equestrian safaris in comfortable camps, or a stationary equestrian safari around a comfortable lodge.
There is truly nothing more exciting than galloping alongside elegant giraffes or among the great wildebeest migration. Experienced riders can enjoy an exhilarating equestrian safari, riding at high speed alongside plains wildlife, or peacefully tracking elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, lions...
equestrian safarihorse safariA horseback safari allows you to cover significant distances in remote areas, some beyond the reach of vehicles. Experienced riders can choose between a progressive horseback safari with nights in different camps or under the stars, or a stationary equestrian safari around a comfortable lodge. For those less experienced, but who would like to go on a horseback safari, our stationary safari with shorter and calmer horseback riding is offered: ideal if you are accompanied by a non-rider or with your family !
Our horseback safaris have been selected by partner agencies, specialists in equestrian safaris. These agencies carries out a particularly rigorous selection of equestrian service providers, from a large range of equestrian safaris.

EQUESTRIAN SAFARI IN BOTSWANA : THE TULI SAFARI

The Tuli Safari explores the banks of the Limpopo River within the Mashatu Reserve. Mashatu is a little known area but offers some of the most exciting game viewing in Africa. It’s particularly well known for large herds of elephant. The tree lined river courses which flow into the Limpopo River provide shade for eland, impala, wildebeest, kudu, waterbuck, giraffe and zebra, whilst at night the bat eared fox and African wild cat search for prey. The large impala population means there are many lion and leopard in the area as well as cheetah and wild dog. The Tuli Block also hosts over 350 bird species.

EQUESTRIAN SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA : "DISCOVERY" SAFARI

Horseback riding safari : Over 150km on horseback through truly spectacular landscapes, with regular sightings of a wide range of wildlife – but also fun activities like dazzling gallops, swim with the horses, play polo-cross and jump a series of natural obstacles on the way to a spectacular sunset spot. To cover these distances and enjoy all these activities, while maintaining group cohesion, riders must be of at least an intermediate level. If the guides feel that a rider is not capable of participating in this safari, alternative rides from the lodge will be arranged. Riders typically enjoy two equestrian activities per day – usually a longer ride in the morning. And either a shorter ride or a fun horseback riding activity in the afternoon. During the safari, riders experience all parts of the 15,000-acre reserve using carefully planned routes. Given the diversity: from vast open plains to savannah, rocky outcrops, wetlands and dense forests: You are sure to encounter greater numbers of wildlife than this, the species typically seen in this veritable Noah's Ark of the Waterberg: giraffe, hippopotamus, Cape buffalo, elk, zebra, zebra, roan, kudu, impala, waterbuck, red hartebeest, nyala, tsessebe, wildebeest, blesbuck, bushbuck, ostrich, baboon, monkey vervet, warthog and jackal. We occasionally see a crocodile, a brown hyena, a serval, a duiker, a bush pig, a steenbuck and reedbuck. They are all superb animals and a privilege to observe them in their natural environment. An unforgettable horseback safari experience. which allows you to enjoy a range of accommodation types: from the well-known Horizon Lodge perched on the edge of a magnificent lake and surrounded by horses, to the canvas camp of Camp Davidson high on a secluded ridge, to the lodge chic Bellevue Plains that overlooks vast plains filled with herds of wildlife

EXPLORE SOUTH AFRICA ,BOTSWANA & FAUNA

The African Explorer is a horseback safari which encompasses two riding destinations, one in the Waterberg region of Limpopo in South Africa and the other in the ancient and undisturbed landscapes of the Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana.  Spread over eight days (seven nights) the safari – literally “journey” in Swahili – entails riding first across the game rich plains, wetlands and mountain landscapes in South Africa, and then, once transferred by road to Botswana, along the Limpopo River floodplains and up into the heart of the Mashatu Reserve, with regular sightings of Africa’s most charismatic wildlife species. This combination of an introduction to riding in Africa with non-dangerous game, followed by encounters on horseback with elephant, spotted hyena and often lion, cheetah and leopard, while experiencing two African countries on one safari, has won the African Explorer a global reputation as one of the most accessible and varied riding experiences in Africa.  The three other ingredients which make the African Explorer so special are the quality of the horses, the professionalism of the guides, and the hospitality provided in the three unique and memorable camps, and one luxury lodge, used along the way.
