Discover the Lubeon on horseback: a protected Natural Park in the heart of Provence between the Alps and the Mediterranean: The Luberon massif is a low mountain range that extends from east to west between the departments of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Vaucluse in the South of France. This massif includes several "mountains": the Grand Luberon and the Petit Luberon are the main ones. There is also an Eastern Luberon whose heights are between 280 and 976 meters and which corresponds to the easternmost part of the massif. However, many old maps or guides do not mention it, only speaking of the Grand and Petit Luberon. It is the Aiguebrun river crossing the massif from north to south that separates the Petit Luberon from the Grand Luberon. This has dug a valley that we call the Lourmarin valley.
The Grand Luberon, where the Mourre Nègre (1,125 meters) peaks, is the main part of the massif in terms of size, length and width. It is located to the east of the Lourmarin valley, south of Apt little city and the Vaucluse mountains, to the west and north of the Durance river bed which runs along the entire massif from east to west starting from Manosque, going down to Pertuis and going back up to Cavaillon. Its perched villages are superb and renowned. Cap Rando is based in Lauris, at the foot of the southern slope of the Petit Luberon. and offers week-long horseback riding trips from the Luberon, through the Provence. Cap Rando also offers 2 to 5 day rides, organized by a former Cap Rando guide who is now self-employed. The Luberon with its diversity of landscapes, between the southern Mediterranean slope and the northern pre-Alpine slope is ideal for horse riding under the Provence sun !
