The Wadi Rum mirrors a moonscape of ancient valleys and towering, weathered sandstone mountains rising out of the white and pink colored sands. A scene right out of the exploits of Lawrence of Arabia and the authentic setting of the film, the Wadi Rum presents many opportunities for long canters across high plateaus. Traveling along old caravan roads offers an encounter with an altogether different world, complete with possible personal invites from the desert dwelling Bedouins. The highlight of this horse riding trip is a visit to Petra – the Hidden City. Petra, the jewel in the crown of Jordan's antiquities, has been declared by popular ballot one of the 'new' Seven Wonders of the World. The magnificent rock-hewn city of the Nabateans hardly needed further billing (since Jean Louis Burckhardt discovered it in the 19th century, it has been a favorite destination for Europeans) but at sunset on a winter's day, when the rose-pink city catches alight, it's easy to see why it has charmed a new generation of visitors.
Weather
Jordan enjoys a Mediterranean climate for pleasant horseback trips all year round. Amman is sunny and cloudless from May to early November, with average temperatures around 23°C (75°F). Spring brings optimal weather, lush with greenery, and fall is just as mild and pleasant. July and August are hot and dry but not oppressive. Due to the elevation of the capital, the evenings are cool.

JORDAN ENTRANCE FORMALITIES:
- Passport: It must be valid for 6 months from the date of entry into Jordan.
- Visa: validity of 3 months for a stay of 1 month on site. European Union, Swiss and Canadian nationals obtain it either at the Jordanian embassy (compulsory for a multiple entry visa), or directly at the border (1 entry visa only; count 40 JD, payable only in Jordanian dinars ; no photo needed).
- Jordan Pass: The Jordan pass is included in all our Jordan packages. A very interesting solution, buy the Jordan Pass online, before departure and print it, provided you stay at least 3 nights in the kingdom. Advantage: The pass covers both visa fees (1 entry only) and entry to 40 sites (including Petra, Wadi Rum and Jerash to mention the main ones). It costs 70-75 or 80 JD, depending on the number of days you want in Petra (1 to 3 days). Very advantageous therefore, the pass being quickly reimbursed (separate costs: 50 JD for 1 day in Petra and 40 JD for the visa at the airport). It should be used within 12 months of purchase. Upon arrival at the airport, all you need to do is validate the pass to obtain your visa. And present the pass at the entrance to the various sites. Print it in several copies, in case of loss, you will always have a spare.
HEALTH:
Hygiene conditions are good and the country is relatively well equipped medically. No compulsory vaccines if you come from Europe.
It is advisable to be up to date for the “universal” vaccines recommended in Europe: tetanus-polio-diphtheria-pertussis, measles, hepatitis B; as well as for vaccines protecting against diseases linked to a lack of food hygiene: hepatitis A, typhoid (if the stay takes place under precarious food hygiene conditions).
