HORSE RIDING IN SPAIN: THE SIERRA DE GREDOS
The Sierra de Gredos is a mountain range in Spain belonging to the central system, located between the provinces of Ávila, Cáceres, Madrid and Toledo. Its highest point is the Almanzor peak, at 2591 meters above sea level. The Sierra de Gredos includes five river valleys: Alto Tomes, Alto Alberche, Tiétar Oriental, Tiétar Occidental and la Vera, and the Ambroz valley.
The Sierra de Gredos is located in the south of the province of Ávila: a spectacular natural creation of lagoons, gorges, steep cliffs. On the central Cordillera which separates the Duero and Tagus rivers, stands the Sierra de Gredos, a space carved out by glacial erosion which rises up to 2592 meters. Due to its geographical location, the steep slopes and the different orientations, the Sierra de Gredos can be considered an authentic paradise for flora. The various plant species are distributed on superimposed levels which reach their highest point at the alpine level.
