Horseback Trail Ride in SPAIN : FROM TRUJILLO TO GUADALUPE

EQUESTRIAN TRAIL RIDE IN SPAIN
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *

Day 1: Madrid - Navareedonda de Gredos. Meeting at Madrid airport at 3 pm, transfer to Navarredonda de Gredos. 2 hours drive with a break in Avila town for a short visit: an amazing walled medieval town, classified as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. You will enjoy your welcome dinner at the hotel with your guide in Navarredonda de Gredos, a mountain village at 1600 m altitude, with beautiful views of the highest peaks in Sierra de Gredos.

Day 2: TRUJILLO-MADROÑERA.
Transfer from Trujillo to the horses (5 minutes by car). Allocation of your horse. Ride from Trujillo to Madroñera, with spectacular views of the historic town and its castle (9th century). You walk ancient trails through the Dehesa, the Mediterranean forest, considered the habitat most similar to that which covered Extremadura thousands of years ago. Pleasant lunch in the countryside with good wines and excellent cuisine near the medieval Magasca river bridge. After lunch, a lovely afternoon in Madroñera where you spend the night in a 4* rural hotel, a typical 19th century farm, the horses spend the night in the nearby field. Time in the saddle 5 hours.

Day 3: MADROÑERA-ZORITA.
Departure after breakfast, you follow the cattle trail to Zorita. Good trots and canters in the morning through the Dehesa, where livestock can be seen everywhere: local cows, sheep, goats and Iberian pigs. Tapas break and good outdoor lunch followed by a nap. In the afternoon, drive to Zorita along the olive groves, in a beautiful rural area. Dinner and night at the rural hotel. Time in the saddle 4-5 hours.

Day 4: ZORITA-LOGROSAN.
You follow an old railway line built in the 1920s which, due to the Spanish Civil War, was never completed. Along this greenway, you discover objects and buildings which remind us that there had been a railway line. During the ride you can enjoy the view of the impressive Villuercas landscape. The lunch break is always a highlight of this trip: Mamen will delight you with the tapas break that awaits you in any lost place with Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, olives, nuts, etc. Lunchtime is a relaxing and convivial affair with delicious home-cooked Spanish dishes. such as Paella, Tortilla Española, Iberian pork barbecue, salads, very typical soft cheese from Extremadura “Torta del Casar”. Dinner and night in a rural hotel. Time in the saddle 6 hours.

Day 5: LOGROSÁN-CAÑAMERO.
Departure after breakfast, you cross the Cañamero vineyard, famous in Spain for its good wines and its olive gardens. Here the landscape changes with the beauty of the Villuercas mountains: you can see the canyons of the Ruecas river. You follow the green lane. An accompanying van follows the group all week, meeting you in the morning, for tapas breaks, lunches, in the evening and also to move your luggage: you therefore have access to your luggage during the day, so it is not no need to carry anything on the horse. You have small bags in front of the saddles for small items, like a bottle of water, sunscreen, a camera, a phone... Dinner and night in a rural hotel. Time in the saddle 4-5 hours.

Day 6: CAÑAMERO-GUADALUPE.
This day is a short day on horseback, from Cañamero to Guadalupe. You follow Cañada Real. You can enjoy the view of the impressive Villuercas landscape. You can see vultures, eagles, blue-winged magpies, choughs, shrikes and crows. Villuercas has been declared a Geopark (UNESCO, 2011) due to its cultural and natural heritage and, of course, the great geological value of its relief, with many interesting and visible geological elements. Lunch in the countryside, time in the saddle 3 hours. The horses return to Trujillo by truck. Evening to visit the town of Guadalupe and the Monastery. The city of Guadalupe, built around the Monastery founded in 1337, offers in its buildings a unique style with traditional architecture. Dinner and overnight at the Guadalupe Monastery Hotel, a very special and unique accommodation! The Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe is in a place of great beauty, overlooking a valley surrounded by high mountains (Villuercas) and its Gothic cloister has been transformed into a Hospedería where you spend the night.

Day 7: Breakfast at your hotel, end of the ride and transfer to Madrid airport, departure at 10 am, to be at the airport at 12 o'clock.
