HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE IN TUNISIA
INDICATIVE ITINERARY *
Day 1: Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Djerba.
Day 2: Early departure from Djerba after breakfast, ferry crossing. Head towards Matmata, passing through its lunar landscapes and unique underground dwellings. Visit a troglodyte house. Continue towards Douz, nicknamed the "gateway to the desert". (Free time for mint tea, purchase of a scarf, etc.). After lunch, you go towards Ben Cheroud to start the horseback ride. Continue towards Ben Grira. First evening in the desert around a campfire. Night in bivouac.
Day 3: Wake up at sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, departure to the well of Bir El Ghar. Lunch followed by free time to enjoy the most beautiful sand dunes. Night in bivouac.
Day 4: After breakfast, departure on horseback from Bir El Ghar to reach Chott-Hejriya, where the immense salt desert stretches as far as the eye can see. This mysterious place fascinates with its contrasts and changing landscapes. Lunch and short rest (picking sand roses).
Continue to Bella’a. Night in bivouac.
Day 5: After breakfast, departure to Ain Mansour. Lunch. After lunch, continue to Aouinet Jaber. Night in bivouac.
Day 6: After breakfast, departure to Thahret Hlel (lunch). In the afternoon, ride through the sand dunes to reach Bir Jemeni. Night in bivouac.
Day 7: After breakfast, you leave the dunes to discover another desert landscape: the neighboring oases of Douz. Lunch with the Bedouins in a lush oasis. Continue to Douz for a relaxing hammam in town (visit the souk, craft workshops, souvenirs ...). Return to Djerba by Elkantara (the Roman road). Installation and night at the hotel.
Day 8: End of your horse riding in Tunisia after breakfast. Transfer to the airport.

Suitable for riders with good riding skills and confidence in all three gaits (walk, trot, canter) in open spaces.

2 to 3 hours in the morning, lunch break and 2 to 3 additional hours in the afternoon.

A certified guide leads the ride.

HORSES:
Arabians, Arabian-Barbs, and Barb horses, all accustomed to long desert treks. These sure-footed horses are perfectly suited for the rugged desert terrain.
TACK:
French-designed trail riding saddles for comfortable long hours of riding. Saddlebags and pouches are provided based on individual needs.
ACCOMMODATION:
Arrival and departure nights in a hotel, nights during the trail ride in bivouacs.
BIVOUACS (CAMPS):
Tents with beds (bring a sleeping bag), mobile showers, no toilets.
ASSISTANCE:
A support vehicle equipped with a cell phone and long-range walkie-talkies remains nearby throughout the ride.
MEALS:
Breakfasts and dinners served at the camp.
- Drinks included (1 bottle of mineral water and 1 soda per meal). Alcoholic drinks are not included.
- Lunches enjoyed in the desert with hot or cold dishes prepared by the logistics team.

THE PRICE INCLUDES:

THE PRICE DOESN'T INCLUDE:
Individual insurance, drinks outside of meals and not included (alcoholic drinks), tips, return trip to Tunisia, transfers from/to the airport, registration fees (15 €/person), anything not indicated in "THE PRICE INCLUDES".
INSURANCE:
A civil liability and travel insurance (assistance/repatriation) are compulsory. A cancellation insurance is strongly recommended.
A payment by credit card can make you benefit from its possible insurance (check your contract).
